As with all jewellery, your pieces will experience some wear and tear overtime and requires proper care to avoid unnecessary damage. We suggest the below advice specific to maintaining solid gold and diamond jewellery:

  • Last on, first off: Be careful when taking on and off your jewellery when getting ready – we usually put it on last and take it off first to keep it safe from perfumes or lotions as this can ruin the shine of your piece. Perfume, creams, and cosmetics are amazing for you, but not so much for your jewellery as it can dull the shine of the solid gold and diamonds.
  • Avoid harsh conditions: Although our pieces are crafted from high-quality, durable materials, we recommend removing them before swimming, bathing, scrubbing dishes, or dealing with harsh chemicals. Try to keep your pieces away from chlorine— prolonged exposure to chlorine or strong chemicals can weaken metals, making it prone to damage.
  • Rings off for hands-on activities: Take off your jewellery before exercising, cooking, going to bed or engaging in any hands-on activities that could lead to damage. Prolonged exposure to water, sweat, or friction can cause unnecessary wear over time.

To ensure your diamonds and jewellery maintain their brilliance over time, we recommend cleaning them at least once a week with a soft, lint-free cloth. Each DÉSIR piece comes with its own jewellery cleaning cloth – so there's no excuse, darling.

While they say diamonds are forever, they can attract oils and dirt that dull their natural sparkle. With your DÉSIR jewellery cleaning cloth, you likely already have the essential items needed for a complete jewellery cleaning kit at home. For a deeper clean, soak your jewellery in warm water mixed with mild dish soap. Gently scrub the pieces with a soft toothbrush, then rinse and pat dry with a soft cloth. Be sure to rinse thoroughly to remove any detergent residue.

We advise caution when using ultrasonic jewellery cleaners. While they are effective, they are best used by professional to avoid any potential damage to your pieces.

For optimal care, we recommend having your jewellery professionally cleaned and inspected annually. This ensures your jewellery maintains its beauty, with all stones, whether diamonds or gemstones, securely set and has not become loose over time.

Other Care tips

When you’re not wearing your jewellery, give it a dedicated place of its own.  Not only will this minimise your chances of losing your piece when you take it off, but storing them in a clean, dry spot will keep it looking its best. We suggest using individual pouches or soft-lined boxes to avoid scratches and tangles.

Store fine chains untangled in a dedicated jewellery box with separate compartments or hooks to prevent them from knotting and tangling. If you don’t have a jewellery box with compartments, a soft pouch or fabric-lined bag can also be used. When handling delicate chains, be sure to avoid pulling or overstretching them, as this can weaken the material and cause damage over time. 

Keep earring backings secure while wearing your earrings to prevent them from loosening or falling off. When not in use, store the backings in pairs with the corresponding earrings to avoid losing one.

Each DÉSIR piece is delivered in an exquisite ring box for soft safekeeping. It isn’t just about looking pretty - your jewellery deserve a proper home. It’s also a good habit to keep them in the same spot to ensure you don’t misplace them, especially for a valuable piece like an engagement ring or wedding band. Be sure to keep your jewellery away from extreme temperatures and direct sunlight.

Over time, settings may loosen putting your diamond or gemstone at risk of falling out. We recommend scheduling an annual inspection to ensure your diamonds or gemstones are securely set. If you notice any movement, or something isn’t quite right, our in-house jeweller can assist with almost any jewellery repair or adjustment. All of our jewellery pieces come with a six-month warranty subject to assessment by our team. Please note that this warranty does not cover damage from wear and tear. Proof of purchase is required for all warranty claims.
